USW District 6 Steelworker Summer 2022

Dear Steelworkers,

It is my great pleasure to advise members and retirees of many USW locals across District 6 that their children and grandchildren can apply for a great summer job program this year.

Steelworker Summer 2022 is a unique program offering young people a wonderful opportunity to gain employment and personal-development experience, while working alongside local union activists and members.

Steelworker Summer participants will learn about our union’s commitment to improve our members’ working and living standards, as well as social and economic justice issues and the critical role that Steelworkers and the labour movement play in building a more equal and just society.

The Steelworker Summer program is open to children and grandchildren of USW members and retirees whose local unions contribute to the USW Family and Community Education Fund (FCEF).

Given the implications of the pandemic, the program is offering placements in the home communities of eligible local unions. The program offers placements of up to 10 weeks, with a weekly stipend of $650, based on a 35-hour work week.

This year, the FCEF will fund up to nine (9) Steelworker Summer positions within eligible local unions in District 6.

Full details on the program and the application process can be found by clicking here.

I strongly encourage local unions that contribute to the FCEF to apply to the Fund with a proposal to hire one or more students for Steelworker Summer 2022.

In solidarity,

Myles Sullivan
