Steel Pride Network

The United Steelworkers union has a proud legacy of protecting the rights of all members. The first of the founding principles of our union, written in 1942, is “to unite in one organization, regardless of creed, colour or nationality, all workmen and working women.” (If written today, this should simply read “workers.”)

This commitment continues to be at the heart of everything we do. The United Steelworkers stands behind our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Two-Spirited, Intersex, Asexual, Non-Binary, Pansexual, plus (LGBTQ2SIA+) members and ensures they have a workplace free from harassment and discrimination, and that they are treated equitably and with respect. The USW also works hard to ensure that members of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community have equal opportunities within our organization.

The USW District 3 Steel Pride Network was created to bring together LGBTQ2SIA+ members from across Western Canada. The Network is not a committee and open to all LGBTQ2SIA+ members to join.

The Network will connect members to help enhance LGBTQ2SIA+ members’ inclusion, visibility, and potential for success within the union, the workplace, and the community.

The D3 Steel Pride Network will use a private Slack channel, and only members can see who is in the channel and what is posted. Slack is easy to join and offers both web and app-based access so you can stay connected wherever you are.
