For 40 years, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund (SHF) has transformed the solidarity of USW members into lasting action for workers and communities in Canada and around the world. Since its creation in 1985, the SHF has responded to humanitarian crises, supported trade unions, advanced women’s rights, invested in long-term development, and strengthened vulnerable communities.

This special 40th anniversary report looks back on four decades of collective action and the people, partnerships, and principles that have shaped the SHF’s work. It highlights the impact of 40 years of SHF initiatives, both internationally and in Canada, across a wide range of areas, including emergency relief, worker-to-worker solidarity in global supply chains, sustainable development, women’s rights, and Canadian programs. Above all, it showcases how USW members have helped build a more just and equitable world while reinforcing the union’s enduring commitment to social justice.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead. In a world facing growing inequality, conflict, and climate-related crises, the need for solidarity has never been greater.

Discover in this report stories, achievements, and the lasting impact of 40 years of the Steelworkers Humanity Fund.
