Ken Neumann’s Statement for International Women’s Day 2019

February 27, 2019

Recently, I experienced the strength and sisterhood of women gathered for common action when I attended the USW International/National Women’s Conference. Over 900 Women of Steel gathered in Toronto, Canada to talk about accomplishments and challenges. It was moving. It was powerful.

We heard from women playing key leadership roles, such as local presidents, and from women who had created programs and projects to advance women’s rights.

Delegates also charted a path of action for the coming years for our union, found in the USW Call to Action on Women’s Equality.

For International Women’s Day 2019, let’s celebrate the great work that Women of Steel have done and are doing to make the world a safer, healthier place for all women. And let’s keep the USW Call to Action on Women’s Equality close at hand, to guide our union work in 2019 and onward.

In solidarity,

Ken Neumann
National Director

The jobs of thousands of USW members have been plunged into uncertainty due to U.S. tariffs, outsourcing and offshoring.
