Call for members for the D3 Human Rights Committee

May 11, 2026
D3 HRC

Dear local unions leaders and members:

Our union has always been strongest when it reflects the full diversity, strength and spirit of workers across Western Canada. That commitment to equality, justice, dignity and respect is not just something we believe in. It’s something we build together.

But there’s more to do.

Across our workplaces and communities, our Indigenous members, 2SLGBTQIA+ members, members living with disabilities and racialized workers continue to face barriers that demand action, solidarity and leadership. That’s where you come in.

We’re calling on members to step forward and help shape the future by joining the District 3 Human Rights Committee (D3 HRC).

This is your opportunity to help develop meaningful policies that advance human rights in our union, be part of a collective voice that drives real change and bring forward ideas, experiences and perspectives that strengthen our movement.

We are seeking representatives from every local to ensure our committee reflects the diversity of our industries, geography, and membership. Submit your local’s representative(s) at usw.to/d3hrc.

2026/27 meeting schedule (virtual – 5:30 p.m. PT):

The committee is chaired by Brett Bird (USW 2009) with support from staff representatives Cindy A. Lee and Brett Barden. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at clee@usw.ca or bbarden@usw.ca.

In solidarity,

Scott Lunny
Director
