2024 District 3 Regional School - Regina

District 3 will be hosting a regional school in Regina, from June 25-27, 2024, at the Delta Hotel Regina (1919 Saskatchewan Drive).

There will be a small registration fee of $75 to help offset the costs.

Locals and individuals are responsible for the room costs upon check-in/out and receipts must be submitted to their local unions for reimbursement. We have secured a group room rate of $169/night. To be part of the room block, hotel reservations must be made by Sunday, June 2, 2024. Book your group rate for United Steelworkers Regional School here.

District 3 has a number of scholarships available for members traveling to this training, and if you would like more information, please contact Dayna Sykes at dsykes@usw.ca.

Financial Officers
This is a workshop for local financial officers, trustees and other members interested in the financial operations of the union. Participants will practise the skills they need as a financial officer and trustee. This includes keeping a monthly ledger, allocating funds, cheque writing and the proper notations on the cheque stub, per capita tax reporting, and the actual auditing of the books.

Trustees will gain an understanding of what a complete set of books should look like by doing the books themselves. They will look at how to budget in a way that helps their local achieve its objectives to serve the needs of the membership.

Session will include:

  • Duties of the financial officers
  • Financial officers’ guidance information
  • Completing expense vouchers
  • Financial secretary’s cash book
  • Calculate income tax, CPP/QPP and EI
  • How financial officers work with executive members and others to build the Local Union

Officers in Action
This course is designed for all current and potential Local and Amalgamated Local executive officers and unit chairpersons, and will focus on:

  • Union, local and unit structure
  • Committees and responsibilities
  • Duties and roles of officers
  • Parliamentary procedure
  • Building solidarity and activism

Building Political Power – CANCELLED.

Have you ever wondered why our union engages in politics? Have you often heard people suggest say you should get more involved in politics? Have you ever wondered if politics is really as important as people say it is?

This training seminar is designed to raise awareness about the importance of politics in our everyday lives and how to build support in your workplace and community for Steelworker campaigns. The course will also help identify ways Steelworkers can get involved and take political action to elect more New Democrats through Steelworkers Vote.
