Happy Pride!

June 1, 2022

Message from USW District 6 Director Myles Sullivan on 2022 Pride celebrations

On behalf of United Steelworkers District 6, I would like to wish our LGBTQ2SIA+ members a very happy Pride season!

June is a time to celebrate what has been accomplished and to reflect on the work that still needs to be done. Although there are many great events throughout the month of June and the summer months, our responsibility to advocate alongside equality-seeking groups in our union, our workplaces and communities must be a year-round commitment.

Your voices need to be heard and I encourage you to get involved. Whether you join the human rights committee within your local or even start one, your activism is what we need to continue building a strong, diverse and inclusive union.

Over the last couple of years, due to pandemic, the in-person celebrations were cancelled. But this year, we will be in the streets, celebrating and walking proudly with our LGBTQ2SIA+ members.

Check out the list pride events in District 6 and across the country.

I invite you to join United Steelworkers as we participate in this year’s Pride Toronto parade on June 26. To join us, please contact: d6humanrightscommittee@gmail.com

I also invite you to attend one of June’s Building Inclusive Locals [Bâtir des sections locales inclusives] Zoom events and learn: How can we work together to increase participation and inclusion of LGBTQ2SIA+ Steelworker in locals and workplaces?
