Ken Neumann Statement for October 4, National Day to Commemorate Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

September 27, 2019

On October 4 we remember the many hundreds of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across this country. It should also be a time for us to acknowledge their resilience and their important contributions to all our communities, past, present and future.

The National Inquiry has completed its work and issued a final report. USW’s National Aboriginal Committee will discuss how our union can best support Indigenous women and their organizations to ensure that governments enhance safety and justice. As our beautiful poster says, we honour and value the lives and strength of Indigenous women and girls. (Thank you to the talented artist, Chief Lady Bird, for the art work.)

Please attend an October 4 event in your community. Check with women’s shelters or Indigenous people’s organizations in your home community, or visit the web site of the Native Women’s Association of Canada.

In solidarity,

Ken Neumann
National Director
