Ken Neumann’s statement for International Women’s Day 2020

February 28, 2020

Women make a significant contribution to our union. From active members in the workplace right up to the USW International Executive Board, women organize, educate, advocate, and speak up. Our union is stronger when we include and listen to the experiences of women workers, of all ages, races, abilities and ways of being a woman.

International Women’s Day, March 8, is a time to celebrate the advances women have made against discrimination and patriarchy. It’s a time to thank the women who, today, continue the push for full equality.

In 2020, in our local unions and across the United Steelworkers, we include and listen to women by:

  • Sending women to USW education courses, including but not limited to Women of Steel courses
  • Selecting women as delegates to the USW International Convention
  • Selecting women as delegates to the National Gathering for Indigenous Steelworkers, the 2020 Justice conference on health, safety, and human rights, and other union events
