Manufacturing Policy

April 4, 2017

Overview: On October 9th 2016, the USW testified before the House of Common’s Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology regarding the state of Canada’s manufacturing sector. The USW submitted a detailed brief to the committee outlining the challenges facing the Canadian manufacturing sector, and how those challenges could be overcome.

The policy paper found on this page grew out of that submission. This paper touches on several important areas: key sectors such as steel, auto and forestry; trade policy; and the need for an environmentally sustainable industrial policy. Each of these topics is explored with the goal of truly benefiting Canadians through job creation and growth in manufacturing.
