USW submission on Bill 27, An Act to amend various statutes with respect to employment and labour and other matters

November 18, 2021

Bill 27, An Act to amend various statutes with respect to employment and labour and other matters, doesn’t provide the necessary detail, nor does it appear to contemplate enforcement to a great enough degree that workers can feel assured the promise of the legislation will ever result in actual help in their workplace.

The government’s proposal to grant the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) the power to hand out refunds to employers while workers go without the help they deserve and need would open the door to privatization with the support of this government.

The government’s desire to simply distribute this money amongst employers shows a complete disregard for the impact on injured workers and organizations dependent upon the WSIB funding.
