Myles Sullivan’s statement for International Women’s Day 2022

March 7, 2022

Women of Steel,

I would like to wish you a Happy International Women’s Day. As your Director, I thank you for all you do. The last couple of years have presented many challenges and we thank you all for stepping up, whether as frontline workers or remote workers, you kept things running, many while also caring for children and elders. You contributed to your workplaces and were involved in the Union, often without many of the joyful opportunities to gather of the past.

We must acknowledge that the pandemic has been a greater burden on women, economically, and in facing the double load of managing households, often with children in online and in person school, so much uncertainty and so much pivoting. I feel hopeful as we embark on spring that we can return to normalcy in many of the things that bring us back together and that we will soon be able to gather and meet again.

I hope to see you getting involved in activities such as Raising the Bar on Women’s Health and Safety and participating in the upcoming provincial election, whether volunteering for a couple hours, attending Political Action Schools or running as a candidate.

Most of all, I hope that this is a year where you don’t have to be a superhero or she-ro and can find a balance between home, work, union and community.

Happy International Women’s Day

In Solidarity,

Myles Sullivan
USW District 6 Director
