Dear Locals,
The Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) has announced a Province-Wide Day of Protest on May 29, calling on workers and community members to stand up against Premier Danielle Smith’s government and its focus on separatism and constitutional battles while Albertans struggle with affordability, health care and education concerns.
USW believes Alberta workers need a government that supports workers across all sectors — private and public alike.
The May 29 protests will bring together union members and community allies from all sectors and unions in coordinated demonstrations across the province. We encourage members to attend events in their communities.
More information and protest locations are available at fightbacknow.ca.
As part of our Steelworkers Vote campaign, USW has booked off activists from Thursday, May 21–Friday, May 29 to connect with members specifically in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat through phone calls, texts, emails and door knocking to discuss the issues facing working families and encourage participation in the rallies.
This will be Steelworkers talking to Steelworkers, to hear how they are feeling and discuss the need for workers to be heard. We wanted to make locals aware in case members have questions about these outreach efforts.
If you have any questions, please contact Brett Barden at bbarden@usw.ca or 604-445-6956 who is leading our Steelworkers Vote program. Or reach out to me, directly.
In solidarity,
Scott Lunny
