Celebrating Steelworker fortitude and solidarity for the holidays

December 19, 2025

Steelworkers,

What a year it has been for Steelworkers across the country! As a union and as activists, we were engaged in our workplaces, at the bargaining table, in our communities, in politics and much more.

Some Steelworkers took the courageous action of going out on strike, while other Steelworkers were locked out by their employers. All the while, we supported picket lines, brought food and hot drinks, donated to workers holding out against unfair conditions, took on health and safety challenges, worked to improve equity and many times we have won.

Together, we have taken on the U.S. tariff fight with gusto and called on all levels of government to put workers at the centre of the economy and decision-making.

We have much to be proud of as a union.

These fights are long but as Steelworkers, we are committed to progress now and continuing to win over the long-term. While sometimes our individual efforts may feel small in the face of the scope of the problems we collectively face, I want to remind us all that each of us can and does make a difference.

Thank you for what you do in your community. I wholeheartedly believe that Steelworkers make great neighbours, and every day, you prove this to be true. Thank you for all that you do to strengthen your communities and our union.

I am wishing each and every one of you a joyful holiday season for those who celebrate, a happy end to this year and success in 2026. May everyone in our community have what they need to thrive and may we be fortified in our resolve to make it so.

In solidarity,

Marty Warren
USW National Director
