USW Congratulates Jagmeet Singh, New Federal NDP Leader

October 2, 2017

Steelworkers congratulate Jagmeet Singh as the new federal leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP)!

In a letter to Singh on behalf of Steelworkers, USW National Director Ken Neumann expressed excitement about Singh’s leadership and the tremendous energy and enthusiasm the new leader brings to our proud and principled party.

“You are arriving at an important point in our party’s history, and I have no doubt you and your team are very well suited to moving us forward in a strong and effective manner,” said Neumann.

“I thank and congratulate all of the leadership candidates for making the leadership race such a positive experience for party members and an opportunity to communicate our party’s policies and values to the public.”

From the founding of our party, the Steelworkers union has remained very committed supporters of the New Democratic Party. We are loyal social democrats who support our party, and work tirelessly with our leader. We are excited to continue our work together with Jagmeet Singh and his team.

In closing, Neumann wrote, “I often remind our members that the United Steelworkers has no better friend than the NDP. I am very sure that, like your predecessors, you will also find that the NDP has no better friend than the United Steelworkers.”
