Scott Lunny, United Steelworkers Director for Western Canada, released the following statement following the Alberta referendum vote:
“Albertans have made their voices heard. They want to remain part of a strong, united Canada. Now it’s time to put division behind us and get back to work building a better future for working families.
“It’s time for all levels of government to invest in Alberta workers, protect and create good union jobs, strengthen our energy, forestry and manufacturing industries, develop our critical mineral resources, buy Canadian and strengthen labour laws that protect working people.
“A safe, skilled workforce with good wages and the right to join a union and bargain collectively is a critical tool for making life more affordable for Alberta families. Alberta’s workers and natural resources are essential to Canada’s future. It’s time to invest in working families, strengthen our industries and build an economy that works for everyone.”
