During the last round of bargaining, USW locals 5890 and 6673 with InterPro Pipe and Steel (formerly EVRAZ) proudly introduced a powerful new commitment to support employees who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Under this agreement, any member who chooses to serve in the Canadian military be granted leave, no matter the duration, with the assurance that their financial well-being remains protected. If military pay falls short of regular InterPro earnings, the company will provide supplemental pay to bridge the gap, ensuring that no one sacrifices financial stability while serving their country. This is more than policy, it’s a statement of respect, gratitude and solidarity.
Beyond pay, InterPro is reinforcing its dedication to the long-term security of its employees by maintaining full participation in benefits and pension accrual during military service. Every hour spent in uniform will count toward their future, just as every member’s courage counts toward our collective strength.
This language reflects a culture of care and honour, one that uplifts those who serve and reminds us that standing together is how we move forward.
The USW District 3 Veterans of Steel Committee encourages other locals to negotiate similar provisions in their collective agreements to support those who serve our country in the military.
