Rogers refuses to return to bargaining table; continues to undermine Abbotsford workers’ right to strike
The USW is demanding that Rogers return to bargaining instead of using loopholes to get around Canada’s new federal anti-scab legislation.
In Bargaining to Win, members learned the fundamentals of effective collective bargaining, from preparing proposals to building a strong committee and communicating with members throughout the process.
Irshad Malik (Local 2894) appreciated how practical the course was: ” This course showed the real planning behind bargaining. It’s not just talk – it’s knowing your power and how to use it effectively. My local will benefit directly from what I’ve learned.”
Participants explored strategies to strengthen member engagement, analyzed employer tactics and reviewed successful approaches from other locals.
Facilitator Al Watson (USW Staff Representative, District 6) noted the group’s commitment: “They were curious, collaborative and ready to bring these skills back to their locals. That’s what makes this work matter.”
Tina Fournier, a participant from Local 9211, added, “It’s inspiring to see members so engaged and eager to lead negotiations. This course gave them the confidence to step up.”
Bargaining to Win reminded everyone that effective negotiations begin with preparation, communication and collective strength.
