SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont.—With Giving Tuesday fast approaching on Dec. 3, Local 2724 has pledged its partnership with the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) to match every donation up to $50,000. The matching campaign is part of the SAHF’s ambitious goal to raise $100,000 in a single day to fund 30 vital signs monitors for Sault Area Hospital.

“USW Local 2724 has been a proud partner of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation for many years. When we were approached with the option to match gifts for Giving Tuesday, it was easy for us to say yes. Funding vital signs monitors for our local hospital doesn’t just benefit our union members: it impacts care for our families, friends and community,” said Bill Slater, President of USW Local 2724.

Your gift contribution will be able to fund the purchase of Vital Signs monitors, which are essential tools used daily across the hospital to provide real-time information on patients’ health. These monitors, which cost approximately $3,325 each, are funded entirely by community donations. Regardless of size, donations will significantly impact and help provide critical medical equipment at our hospital.

In a statement, Teresa Martone, Executive Director of SAHF, describes the relationship with Steelworkers as a true partnership, highlighting their consistent willingness to support the community. “USW Local 2724 is proving once again that Steelworkers make great neighbours! We were glad to welcome them as partners to celebrate this Giving Tuesday. This day is to celebrate that everyone has a way to give back to their community. Thanks to USW 2724, your gift to SAHF, regardless of the size of the gifts, will go twice as far to provide critical medical equipment at our hospital.”

With 30 monitors still needed, SAHF is calling on the community to help meet the match and achieve its goals. Your support is not just appreciated; it is integral to the success. Donations can be made online at sahfoundation.com/givingtuesday, by phone at 705-759-3848, or in person at the SAHF office. Join USW local 2724 in the movement of giving and helping SAHF hospital get the tools it needs to provide exceptional care to the community of Sault Ste. Marie.
